The Johns Hopkins Data Science and AI Institute is launching the Johns Hopkins Data Science and AI Institute Event Support Funding Program to support artificial intelligence-related events and seminars. The program will provide funding for data science- or AI-focused events, with funds to be spent by June 30, 2026. Examples of supported events include symposiums, workshops, and conferences, though we encourage proposers to think creatively about programming.
Eligibility
All JHU affiliates are eligible to apply. Focus areas for the institute include:
- Foundations
- Interactive and embodied AI
- Health and medicine
- Safety and security
- Scientific discovery
- Engineered systems
- People, policy, and governance
Events submitted by the due date will be given full consideration. After the submission deadline, events will be considered on a rolling basis as funds remain available.
Targeted funding amounts
Approved funding amounts will depend on the number of submissions and demonstrated need within the community. The Institute may decide to fully or partially fund proposed events with a preference for co-sponsorship. Funding is limited. Typical funding amounts range between $1,000 and $3,000.
Review criteria
The review process will consider the size of the event, the audience, the DSAI neighborhood, innovativeness of the event, the potential for long-term impact, and collaboration between divisions. Proposals will be reviewed by a panel of faculty.
Post award requirements
Recipients will submit a final progress report, including any external funding applications/awards enabled by this funding. Recipients may also be asked to present at a DSAI event.
