We are excited to announce the call for applications to join the year-2 cohort of the NSF Research Traineeship (NRT) Program in AI-Driven Advancements in Material Science at Johns Hopkins University, online at https://adam-nrt.engineering.jhu.edu/.
This program offers MS and PhD students the opportunity to gain cutting-edge training at the intersection of artificial intelligence, materials science, and advanced hardware systems. NRT trainees complete a set of prescribed core and elective courses, participate in at least one paid internship with a microelectronics company, government lab, or NGO, attend twice-yearly professional development workshops, engage in NRT community events, and conduct research in one of four focus areas: AI-driven low-dimensional and quantum materials, semiconductor manufacturing, advanced computing hardware, or next-generation electronics.
Outcomes from NRT research are expected to contribute to thesis or dissertation, and all trainees—funded or unfunded—benefit from mentorship, networking, and career preparation. Please note that NSF restricts funded positions to U.S. citizens and permanent residents, though unfunded trainees may still participate fully. Faculty advisers may nominate one student at https://forms.office.com/r/npBHi2Nuat. The student will also submit their application here: https://forms.office.com/r/SBhFTQyRcG; preference will be given to students in the first three years of their graduate program, though fourth-year PhD students may be considered if slots remain. Applications with an adviser's letter of support are due by Oct. 15 (11:59 p.m. EDT).
