This work will take place in two phases during standard construction hours, from July 1 through Oct. 10.
Phase 1: July 1 to Aug. 14
Installation of HHW piping along the west side of the loop
- Vehicle access will be maintained via road crossings north and south of the site fence with ramp entries.
- A temporary ADA-compliant blacktop walkway will be installed.
- Traffic barriers, orange fencing, and detour signage will be in place for safety.
- Flaggers and spotters will guide pedestrians and vehicles through and around the work zone.
Phase 2: Aug. 15 to Oct. 10
Installation of HHW piping through the loop and into the beach area.
- ADA detours will shift to the west side of the loop using newly installed blacktop walkways.
- Additional fencing will secure the work zone; signage and flaggers will remain in place.
- Short-term, limited closures of the East Gate Loop roadway may occur during construction hours and will be coordinated with JHU at least two weeks in advance.
- Road plates will be used to maintain vehicle access across open trenches.
- Restoration of the roadway and beach area will follow backfill, including resurfacing and sod installation.
Safety & Accessibility Measures (both phases)
- Pedestrian pathways in the area will be closed.
- All detours will be clearly marked and ADA-compliant.
- Flaggers will be stationed at road crossings to manage both pedestrian and vehicular traffic.
- Protective measures such as filter cloth and sand layers will be used to preserve existing hardscape features.
