Changes coming to waste receptacles on Homewood campus

The recently released Climate Action & Sustainability Plan outlines a universitywide goal of achieving a 50% waste diversion rate by 2030. A key initiative in support of this goal is the establishment of standardized waste management infrastructure across all campuses.

As part of this effort, the Homewood campus will adopt uniform waste bin colors and signage to support consistent and effective waste sorting. This standardization will not only simplify proper waste disposal as individuals move between campuses but also align with national standards.

Under the new standard:

  • Compost bins will be green
  • Recycling bins will be blue
  • Waste bins will be gray

These changes are an important step toward creating a more sustainable and user-friendly waste management system across the university.
