Test pitting work on Homewood campus

From Wednesday, Feb. 12, through Wednesday, Feb. 19, work will be conducted in the Freshman Quad and areas north and west of AMR I to gather information about underground utilities. This process, called test pitting, helps determine the location and materials of existing utility lines to prepare for future steam pipe construction.

Crews will perform approximately nine small test pits during this period, with work hours from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Using a specialized dry vacuum truck, they will excavate carefully and minimize disruption to pathways, tree roots, and the surrounding area. Temporary fencing and spotters will be in place to ensure pedestrian safety.

While the truck emits noise comparable to a lawn mower, we appreciate your understanding as we complete this essential step to streamline future construction.
