The Johns Hopkins Diversity Leadership Council invites you to submit a proposal to present at the 21st annual Diversity and Inclusion Conference. At the conference, scheduled to be held virtually on Dec. 6, you join leaders, faculty, students, community neighbors, alumni, and staff in examining critical questions related to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
The conference theme—Building Connections: The Power of Lived and Shared Experiences—emphasizes the importance of coming together, understanding, and collaboration across different experiences and communities. We invite proposals from internal and external expert scholars, practitioners, and community members on topics that prioritize inclusive conversations, welcome diverse voices, and emphasize shared understanding. Possible session topics could surround:
Connectivity & Collaboration
- In what ways can cross-disciplinary collaboration lead to more creative and impactful solutions?
- How can technology be leveraged to foster deeper connections and more effective collaboration?
- How can discourse and dialogue be used as tools for enhancing connection and collaboration during challenging times?
Solidarity & Support
- How can organizations create supportive environments that empower underrepresented voices and foster solidarity?
- How can inclusive storytelling be utilized to strengthen connections and support among diverse individuals?
- What are some successful community engagement practices that promote collective problem-solving?
Advocacy & Action
- What are the emerging trends in advocacy and action for DEI that organizations should prioritize in the coming years?
- What role do policies and practices play in driving meaningful action for DEI, and how can we advocate for systemic change?
- How can grassroots movements and local initiatives inspire larger-scale action for diversity, equity, and inclusion?
Sessions are limited to 70 minutes and should allow for at least 10 minutes for a questions and answer (Q&A) period. They should be research- and practice-based, interactive, and suitable for participants with a range of DEI knowledge and experience.
The virtual platform will allow presenters to share their screen, breakout rooms, participant chat, and Q&A. Presenters should ensure that their presentations are accessible and inclusive by invoking principles of universal design for learning and other accessibility strategies.
Submit proposals via the online submission portal. The deadline for proposal submission is Oct. 18. If you have questions, email dlcouncil@jh.edu.
