Workshop: Active learning for online and in-person instruction

Join the Teaching Academy at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg Center in Washington, D.C., for a workshop on active learning techniques for in-person and online, asynchronous delivery. The workshop will be offered in person at the new Bloomberg Center in D.C. and via Zoom. 

Learn how to implement active learning techniques for in-person and online delivery and pivot between the two modalities. 

Speakers: Caroline Egan and Kelly Clark, JHU Center for Teaching Excellence and Innovation, Teaching Academy

Learning objectives: 

  • Discuss hesitancies around active learning
  • Design an active learning activity for one of your course lessons; participants will get to choose the modality
  • Discuss how active learning ensures inclusivity for students and the clear data outcomes that support its impact on student learning
  • Identify factors when translating active learning into delivery across the various teaching modalities (e.g., in-person, online, synchronous/asynchronous)
