NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program: Personal statement workshop and additional resources

If you intend to apply for the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship, we encourage you to attend one of two virtual writing workshops offered by the National Fellowships Program. These identical sessions will focus on how to approach the personal statement that is a major part of the NSF GRF application, including ways to address the NSF's "broader impacts" criteria.

  • Monday, Sept. 12, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. (ET) - Register for the Zoom meeting here using your @jhu or @jhmi email address.

  • Friday, Sept. 16, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. (ET) - Register for the Zoom meeting here using your @jhu or @jhmi email address.

Writing Fellow Jake Budenz is also available to review a draft of your personal statement. He will critique personal statements in two batches, those submitted by Sept. 23, and those submitted by Oct. 5. Drafts in each batch will be read and returned in the order they are received. Submissions will be accepted via a Blackboard site, which contains additional resources for NSF GRFP applicants. To self-enroll on the site, please see the instructions on NFP's NSF GRFP webpage.

If you have questions about the sessions or the draft review process, contact Jake at jbudenz1@jhu.edu.
