Planning for the 2022 Commencement activities is in full swing! The Class of 2022 will graduate on Sunday, May 22, on the Homewood Field in a ceremony scheduled from 6:30 to 9 p.m. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be postponed until Monday, May 23, from 9 to 11:30 a.m.
Volunteers are needed for this event and for the Senior Toast, from 8 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, May 21 on Keyser Quad. In the case of severe weather on May 21, Senior Toast will be canceled.
More than 150 volunteers are needed, so you are encouraged to share this information with anyone you think may also be interested in volunteering. After you receive your assigned role, you will received information about available training sessions. Crowd Manager training is also required and can be completed through myLearning. More information will be available during training.
To learn more about the volunteer needs and to sign up, visit the Commencement website. Virtual training sessions will be conducted in early May and you will be notified of training options once roles have been assigned. If you are available on only one of the dates, you can still sign up. If you have questions, contact Maura Callahan, mcalla12@jhu.edu.
As always, it is entirely optional to volunteer. We want you to feel comfortable with your decision. Because Commencement falls on a Sunday this year, HR has suggested the following accommodations (check with your manager first):
- Nonexempt employees should be paid their hourly rate (plus overtime if applicable)
- Managers may provide additional time off for exempt employees who volunteer
