Odyssey: Opera for the American Audience: Menotti's 'Consul' and 'Scalia/Ginsburg'

Baltimore Concert Opera's recent performance of The Consul was warmly received, and, fortunately, it was video-recorded live. Popular Odyssey lecturer Courtney Kalbacker, who directed the show, brings discussion of this 1950 Pulitzer Prize-winning opera to you via Zoom. Menotti was known for creating works specifically for Americans, and many composers have taken up that mantle. What does it mean to create opera for Americans? What is effective in today's opera theaters? To answer these questions and more, Prof. Kalbacker will lead an energetic conversation and also delve into Scalia/Ginsburg, which stole the show in 2017 at BCO and Opera Delaware.
