The Music of the Beatles course March 3-31 will explore the impact of the Beatles largely from two points of view: cultural and musical. First, we will seek to understand the nature of the Beatles' success from cultural, sociological, commercial, artistic, and political perspectives, attempting to assess the immediate value of their activity and its ramifications for culture in general within the context of the tumultuous political and sociological events that took place in the 1960s. Second, the course examines the music of the Beatles from the standpoints of songwriting, recording process, and live performance.
