Hopkins PhD students are encouraged to apply for the Edward A. Bouchet Graduate Honor Society, which seeks to develop a network of preeminent scholars who exemplify academic and personal excellence, foster environments of support, and serve as examples of scholarship, leadership, character, service, and advocacy for students who traditionally have been underrepresented in higher education.
All Hopkins PhD students who who have advanced to candidacy, or are "all but dissertation" by Jan. 1, 2021, are eligible to nominate themselves. The deadline for applications is Feb. 1, 2021.
The Bouchet Society is named for the first African American in the United States to receive a PhD. Johns Hopkins University was inducted as an institutional member in April 2018.
