New 3-credit service-learning opportunity in Africa this January

Introducing a new intersession abroad program this January: Service-Learning and Luso-African Society in Cape Verde. This program will offer students the opportunity to conduct service learning at an NGO in Cape Verde. JHU students will assist local children with literacy, sports, arts, technology, languages, music, social activities, and more. Students will have several lectures related to Cape Verde's culture, history, politics, environment, economy, course-related field trips, and other cultural activities to provide the opportunity for students to deepen understanding of this Luso-African society.

The program will start on campus in late October with a 1-credit course that meets weekly for the last six weeks of the semester. This course will provide students with some background knowledge about Cape Verde, Portuguese language foundations, and the NGO as well as prepare students for the service learning and cross-cultural experiences.
