Charles-François Daubigny's print series Voyage en bateau commemorated the first of many trips that the French landscape artist took on a specially constructed studio-boat on the Oise River in 1857. This studio-boat afforded Daubigny a new perspective on his simple compositions of the French countryside, which he painted from nature in his characteristically loose brushwork. This course will take an in-depth look at the creation of the etchings in Voyage en bateau, of which the Baltimore Museum of Art has a unique set, and consider them within the broader context of Daubigny's life and work.
