To help raise funds for Visionaries at JHU, mention "Visionaries" when you go to Chipotle between 5 and 9 p.m. on Tuesday, April 18.
The Visionaries at Johns Hopkins serves to train and equip students to educate the public and doctors in the community about low vision rehabilitation services and to coordinate care by matching low vision patients to local service providers in their area online or by phone.
Students perform the following duties:
- Conduct vision screenings to identify patients with low vision and those at increased risk of glaucoma
- Provide in-home support/troubleshooting for low vision patients
- Interview patients and prepare reports for low vision providers
- Help with visual assistive equipment and lots more
Overall, members will gain not only valuable volunteering experience with Baltimore's vulnerable, low-vision community but also networking opportunities and experience working with patients, providers, and researchers in the field.
More info about the low vision services is on the Lions Vision Research Foundation website.
