Loud, brief "booming" noises are expected to be heard several times this week from a reservoir construction site in Guilford, near the Homewood campus, the Baltimore City Department of Public Works has announced.
The noises are not explosions. They are tests involving the use of high pressure to assess the load-carrying capacity of deep foundations within the reservoir project site. There will be four such tests this week. In each case, an air horn will be sounded as a warning 30 minutes before the test.
The tests will all occur between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. There could be as many as two in a day. For more information, see the Department of Public Works announcement.
