Be Hopkins Eco-Smart, unplug for the holiday to save money and energy

As you prepare for the Thanksgiving holiday, take a few simple steps to reduce unnecessary energy consumption and conserve resources.

Simply turning off equipment does not completely eliminate energy consumption. When still plugged in, devices continue to draw power, known as "phantom" or "vampire" power, even when they are turned off. Unplug desktop and laptop computers, monitors, laptop docks, power strips, cellphone chargers, speakers, printers and copiers, AV equipment, coffee makers, microwaves, toasters, TVs, and more. Be sure to turn off lights too.

Close windows and blinds to reduce HVAC demand at home and in your workspace as appropriate.
