Pedestrian path between Barton and Latrobe to close next week

Continuing the IT Infrastructure Project, which began in the spring with installation of underground conduit along Bowman Drive between New Chemistry and Garland Hall, the second segment of the work will expand the communication conduit pathway between Garland and a utility tunnel located beneath Barton and Latrobe halls. Owing to the complexity of existing utilities located in the area, the construction will require excavating a trench to a depth of about 12 feet between Barton and Latrobe halls to allow connection of the conduit into the utility tunnel.

The work area will require closure of the brick pedestrian pathway between Barton and Latrobe and will also affect the wide brick pedestrian path along the east side of Garland Hall. A portion of the wide walkway will be maintained at all times for emergency vehicle access and pedestrians. Pedestrians will, however, be detoured around the closed section of walkway between Barton and Latrobe and will need to use the Hackerman breezeway or the north side of Barton to get to Garland and Levering halls.

Any questions or concerns about the project should be directed to the JHFRE project manager, Mike Sullivan, at mjsully@jhu.edu.
