Film plastics like shopping bags, shrink wrap, bread bags and sandwich bags are recyclable but need to be collected separately. As part of our Month of Reduce and Reuse Homewood Recycling is hosting a film plastics collection drive.
You probably have a bag full of bags in your home or office so keep filling it and take it to the Wyman Quad between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Friday, April 29. The best way to tell if the plastic is acceptable is if it passes the thumb test. Push your thumb through the plastic and if it stretches, it is acceptable. If it tears on a straight line, it isn't.
If successful we hope to be able to offer regular film plastics recycling in the fall.
At the event you can also take a pledge to #BagtheBag and receive a nifty reusable shopping bag that folds into a small pouch so you can carry it wherever you go.
