Learning and Development, a division of Talent Management and Organization Development, has openings for workshops taking place in May. Here's a brief description of the classes in date order.

Professional Medical Coding
Module 15: Anesthesia
Anesthesia coding is a specialty skill unto itself. In this workshop, participants will review types of anesthesia and their documenting and coding of anesthesia services. Hands-on exercises in coding and billing anesthesia care are used to strengthen your coding skills.

Assertive Communication: On and Off the Job
Learn how to project self-confidence and recognize the differences between assertive, passive, and aggressive behavior. Develop skills to influence the behavior of others, say no, give and receive criticism, listen more effectively, and resolve conflict.

FLEX Talk: Practical Communication Skills Using MBTI Personality Type Theory
Participants will examine their own personality types and identify the ways their type prefers to interact with other types. Interactive exercises will allow practicing alternative ways of communicating with people of different types and how to "flex" one's own communication style. Creative Decision Making and Problem Solving
This workshop guides participants from the beginning of the problem-solving process—identifying the problem and clearly stating it—to a place where they can comfortably work with others in a creatively charged environment to find innovative ways to solve problems together. Teams become refreshed and energized when they realize they can work together cohesively. Old or recurring problems won't have a chance when your team learns to tackle them in a new way.

Professional Medical Coding Training
Module 18: Medicine Services Coding and HCPCS
This workshop will cover the various procedures found in the CPT manual that are accessible to providers across specialties and settings. Participants will be introduced to HCPCS II code sets, modifiers and appendices. In-class exercises will be used to help strengthen coding skills.

Becoming a Conflict Competent Leader
Dealing effectively with conflict is difficult for leaders and followers alike. Poorly managed conflict creates enormous costs in the form of wasted time, turnover, and lawsuits. This course examines the sources of conflict in organizations, and probes the special nature of traditional adversarial roles, hierarchy, and special interests within an organization. Through case studies, role-plays, and examples shared in class, participants investigate effective methods for reaching satisfactory agreements. The Conflict Dynamics Profile is administered to provide the individual with greater self-knowledge of personal style.

A two-day workshop designed for career-focused professionals will offer participants powerful communication strategies and interpersonal skills in diplomacy and tact. Campus Conversations on Diversity and Inclusion at Johns Hopkins University
This four-hour workshop will provide insight on how diversity and inclusion create value, and it will show the importance of ensuring that all faculty, staff, and students are treated with equity, civility, and respect. Using exercises and scenarios, the workshop takes a multimedia approach in exploring perceptions of power, identity, and unconscious biases.

Influencing for Impact: A Workshop for Women in Leadership
Everyone feels frustrated at times by their inability to be heard by others. Women may find that this inability could limit their effectiveness in the organization. This workshop will provide strategies to help you be heard in interpersonal and group situations and will demonstrate how to strengthen your ability to influence others by identifying your preferred influencing styles and strategies.
