Edible Evergreen kitchen garden course begins March 28

Chef John Shields and farm manager Jon Carroll of Gertrude's Restaurant will lead a five-part kitchen garden course at Evergreen Museum & Library highlighting three seasons of sustainably growing and preparing fresh, organic produce.

Class meets five Saturday mornings: 9:30 to 11:30, March 28, May 2, June 13, Aug. 22, and Oct. 3, rain or shine.

The series includes hands-on gardening workshops in the restaurant's garden at Evergreen, cooking demonstrations, a chef's tour of the Waverly Farmers' Market (Aug. 22), and a concluding fall harvest luncheon at Gertrude's (Oct. 3).

Participants will receive printed material on home kitchen garden planning and growing techniques, and recipes incorporating the featured crops.

Registration: $110 public; $90 University Museums members (nonrefundable, but transferable with advance notice).
