These training sessions are intended for full-time Homewood faculty, TAs, and staff who will be serving as administrators for a full-time KSAS or WSE Blackboard course. Meetings are in the Center for Educational Resources' conference room on Q-level of the Eisenhower Library. Three topics will be covered in the upcoming sessions:
Getting Started With Blackboard: This session will provide you with an introduction and overview of Blackboard 9.1's capabilities. We will cover basic navigation in the Blackboard interface as well as how to add, organize, copy, and modify course content. This workshop will be held from 9:30 to 11:30 am and 1:30 to 3:30 pm on Aug. 12 and Aug. 18, and from 9:30 to 11:30 am on Aug. 25 and Sept. 2.
Assessing Student Knowledge and Managing Grades in Blackboard: Learn how to create and manage online tests and surveys in Blackboard, and create assignments that students can submit online. We will also explore the grade center, including how to add items to the gradebook, calculate and weight grades, release grades to students, and download/upload grades. This workshop will be held from 9:30 to 11:30 am on the following dates: Aug. 14, 21, and 27; and Sept. 4.
Blackboard Communication and Collaboration: Blackboard 9.1 offers several tools to enhance course communication and collaboration. Learn how to manage course discussions; email students, TAs, and instructors through Blackboard; create groups for team assignments; and set up a course blog. We will also review some of the other tools available, including Blackboard's notification system, which automatically notifies course members of any changes to the course site. The schedule for this workshop is as follows: 9:30 to 11:30 am on Aug. 13 and 19; 1:30 to 3:30 pm on Aug. 25; and 9:30 to 11:30 am on Sept. 3.
