Awards program to support university's celebration of its 150th year

Faculty, students, staff, postdocs, and alumni are invited to submit proposals for ideas that will celebrate and augment JHU's 150-year history of groundbreaking research, creativity, and innovation across fields

As Johns Hopkins University marks 150 years of academic achievement, groundbreaking discovery, and service to the world, the university is launching the Sesquicentennial Awards Program to reflect on its rich legacy of pathbreaking research, creativity, and innovation while ensuring the promise of the university's bright future.

Awards are available in two categories:

  • Envisioning the Future Awards, which will support academic programming that brings together scholars from Hopkins and beyond to reflect on the current state of their fields and envision how Hopkins can enhance scholarly contributions to their future.
  • Artistic Lens Awards, which invite ideas that engage the Hopkins community with artistic and creative offerings exploring the university's past, present, and future.

More on the awards categories:

Envisioning the Future Awards

Awards of up to $25,000 are available to JHU faculty to support departments, centers, and institutes in convenings that bring together prominent academics from Hopkins and other institutions to engage in self-reflection on the present and future of their fields. These awards are designed to support our researchers and scholars in delving into their academic and research disciplines with the rigor, intellect, and imagination that is part of Hopkins' long tradition of advancing the academic research enterprise. All awardees are expected to share their work in both academic and public venues. Proposals can be multidisciplinary or focus on a single discipline.

Artistic Lens Awards

Awards of up to $15,000 are available to students, faculty, staff, postdocs, and alumni for proposals that support activities and events that sit at the intersection of arts and ideas, including exhibits, performances, or forums that explore the university's past, present, and future through and within the arts. These awards will allow for participants to explore modes of creative expression and collaboration within and across all media, art forms, and academic disciplines. Proposals can be for a single artist or group in a specific discipline or a collaboration that bridges artistic fields or ideas.
