The Nexus Awards, a universitywide initiative that supports faculty-led convening, research, and teaching based at the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg Center, opened its fourth round of grant applications on Dec. 1. Chosen projects and programs can receive up to $300,000 in funding.
Applications are open to full-time JHU faculty from all divisions and disciplines. Proposals must take place primarily in Washington, D.C., while making significant use of the Hopkins Bloomberg Center.
"The Nexus Awards allow faculty from all areas of expertise to bring their creativity and ideas to Pennsylvania Avenue," said Executive Vice Provost Lainie Rutkow. "Past recipients have pursued innovative scholarship, developed novel curricular opportunities, and hosted convenings across a broad range of topics. We're excited to see what this round brings."
The Nexus Awards were launched in 2023 and have since supported 118 projects from hundreds of Hopkins scholars and researchers. The recipients have spanned a wide range of disciplines, with projects including telehealth reform, AI forensics, and the Humanities on the Hill series.
Proposals must fit under one of three categories:
Research: Awards up to $300,000 for up to two years, focusing on either a new area of collaborative work or an expansion of an ongoing area of collaborative work in fundamental, clinical, or applied research, or projects within the arts and humanities.
Teaching: Awards up to $25,000 for up to one year (with the option to renew for a second year) for undergraduate or graduate courses and co-curricular opportunities that will make significant use of the Hopkins Bloomberg Center.
Convening: Awards up to $100,000 for up to one year for the development and execution of a conference or a series of related events on any topic, to be hosted at the Hopkins Bloomberg Center.
Submissions from Peabody and the Applied Physics Laboratory are due Jan. 31. All other proposals are due Feb. 13. To learn more, visit the Hopkins Bloomberg Center website.
