Johns Hopkins employees help more than 600 local families celebrate Thanksgiving

Hopkins employees donated nearly $12,000 to the 49th-annual Vernon Rice Memorial Turkey Drive, which provided Thanksgiving dinner boxes through local partners

Johns Hopkins University and Medicine hosted the 49th-annual Vernon Rice Memorial Turkey Drive on Thursday, Nov. 20, distributing 600 turkeys and 600 boxes of produce to Baltimore-area residents. The event was held in partnership with Mack Lewis Gym, Destiny Christian Church, 29th Street Community Center, and The Mix Church.

The outreach extended beyond individual families, with 26 local organizations also receiving turkeys and produce boxes. Some of the partnering organizations included the Men and Families Center, Marian House, The RICH Foundation, Sons of Phoenix, and New Shiloh Baptist Church in Turner Station.

The program is made possible through the generous contributions of Johns Hopkins employees, who donated nearly $12,000.

"This annual event is one that I look forward to each holiday season," says Jennifer Nickoles, president of Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. "Having the opportunity to step into our communities and provide for our neighbors in such a tangible way is truly something special."
