Hopkins Engineering online graduate master's programs continue to rank among nation's best

Six Whiting School of Engineering online graduate programs are among the top 10

Johns Hopkins Engineering's online graduate degree programs continue to rank among the nation's leading programs, according to U.S. News & World Report's Best Online Master's in Engineering Programs and Best Online Master's in Information Technology Programs.

The Whiting School of Engineering's Engineering for Professionals (EP) division maintained its No. 1 ranking in two categories:

  • Engineering management (tied with Purdue University)
  • Computer information technology, which included data from EP's computer science, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, information systems engineering, and data science programs.

EP's graduate information technology programs for veterans also earned the No. 1 spot this year.

EP's online degrees, which serve over 6,000 students worldwide with online and part-time programming, maintained their No. 6 overall graduate engineering ranking—tied with Texas A&M University, College Station. The same programs also occupied the No. 6 spot in the rankings of overall graduate engineering programs for veterans.

U.S. News & World Report also evaluated four other engineering specialties, with EP programs achieving high rankings. These are:

  • Industrial/systems engineering is No. 3 (up five spots)
  • Mechanical engineering is No. 3 (up four spots and tied with Pennsylvania State University, World Campus, and University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign)
  • Civil engineering is No. 3 (up four spots)
  • Electrical and Computer Engineering is No. 3 (tied with Georgia Tech and the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign)

"This year's rankings validate our continued commitment to providing working engineers with vital skills through exceptional education," said Dan Horn, associate vice dean for professional education and lifelong learning at the Whiting School of Engineering. "We strategically refine our curriculum to match industry demands and not only to meet our students' needs but also to anticipate them."

The Whiting School of Engineering offers 23 online master's programs, which include the programs listed above as well as applied and computational mathematics, applied biomedical engineering, applied physics, climate, energy, and environmental sustainability, environmental engineering, science and management, financial mathematics, healthcare systems engineering, materials science and engineering, robotics and autonomous systems, and space systems engineering.

U.S. News ranks the nation's best online graduate programs in seven disciplines, as well as the best online bachelor's degree programs. Rankings are determined by five weighted criteria: student engagement, faculty credentials and training, student services and technology, peer reputation, and admissions selectivity.

Engineering for Professionals' top-ranked courses and curricula are created by faculty members and program leadership who are experts in their field. Instructional designers support the faculty in customizing the courses for online delivery and maximum student engagement and learning.
