The Johns Hopkins volleyball team saw its 23-match win streak come to an end Thursday evening, and with it the Blue Jays' hopes of playing for an NCAA Division III national championship.
The Blue Jays (33-3) won two of the first three sets against Wisconsin-Whitewater, but the Warhawks forced a decisive fifth set, which they won 15-7, capping a 13-25, 25-16, 17-25, 25-16, 15-7 victory. Wisconsin-Whitewater advanced to Saturday's championship game in Salem, Virginia, to face the winner of a semifinal matchup between top-seeded Juniata and Hope.
Hopkins, which was playing in the NCAA semifinals for the second time in the program's history, got 14 kills from both Simone Adam and Simrin Carlsen and 13 from Jilienne Widener. Carlsen added 12 digs, and Kate Danaher and Helena Swaak both ended the night with 22 assists. Nicole Tuszysnki had a team-high 21 digs.
