Alex Brown named vice president of the Fund for Johns Hopkins Medicine

Alexander Brown has joined Johns Hopkins as the new vice president of the Fund for Johns Hopkins Medicine. Brown, who most recently served as vice president for advancement at Emory University in Atlanta, was selected following a competitive nationwide search. In a message to the Hopkins Medicine community, Theodore L. DeWeese, dean of the medical faculty and CEO of Johns Hopkins Medicine, and Fritz Schroeder, Johns Hopkins University's senior vice president for development and alumni relations, announced Brown's appointment.

"Alex brings deep experience as a leader and trusted partner working across Emory's outstanding medical and health sciences facilities. We are fortunate to have him join the Johns Hopkins community and look forward to welcoming him on board," DeWeese and Schroeder wrote.

"From the work just getting underway in East Baltimore to create the Life Sciences Corridor to the recent transformative gift from Bloomberg Philanthropies supporting medical and graduate students, this is an extraordinary moment for Johns Hopkins Medicine and the perfect time to welcome Alex as the new leader for the Fund."

At Emory, Brown was responsible for the principal gifts program and the Office of Corporate and Foundation Relations. Over the course of his 22 years at Emory, he held many leadership positions representing the Robert W. Woodruff Health Sciences Center and in central Advancement and Alumni Engagement, including as interim vice president for the Robert W. Woodruff Health Sciences Center and associate vice president for the Emory University School of Medicine and Emory Healthcare.

Brown played a leadership role in two comprehensive campaigns that collectively raised more than $5 billion, personally led solicitation of more than $1.1 billion in gifts, and collaborated with key stakeholders—from donors to faculty and university leaders—to secure transformative investments and high-dollar principal gifts.
