Alex Triantis, who has led the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School through a period of transition and growth since the summer of 2019, has been appointed to a second term as dean, through June 30, 2029, the university announced today.
During his tenure, Triantis has made foundational investments in Carey's future, including attracting top talent to bolster the school's research faculty and building a distinctive Business of Health strategy to further distinguish Carey's academic reputation. He has supported the creation of new research centers and initiatives in emerging areas in digital health and artificial intelligence, innovative leadership, human capital development, and gender and work. He also established Carey's presence at the new Hopkins Bloomberg Center in Washington, and strengthened faculty representation through the creation of a faculty advisory council. Triantis oversaw the implementation of reimagined STEM-designated full-time MBA and Flexible MBA programs, and the launch of new online MS degree programs in Business Analytics and in Real Estate and Infrastructure as well as several new or redesigned dual degree programs. Enrollments in degree and certificate programs for working professionals have grown under his leadership, and reflect a more diversified student body.
His appointment to a second term was approved by the university's board of trustees last month.
"Alex exemplifies the principles of academic excellence, innovation, and inclusivity that are core to both Carey's and JHU's missions," JHU President Ron Daniels and Provost Ray Jayawardhana wrote in a message to the Hopkins community today. "He has earned a reputation as an exceptional leader who deftly guides Carey with his trademark blend of business acumen and insightful collegiality. We are grateful for Alex's collaborative leadership and know he is the right person to guide the school as it continues to grow and reach new heights of academic excellence."
Daniels and Jayawardhana lauded Triantis for his financial stewardship and noted that he received particular praise from Carey's faculty, staff, and students for his outstanding leadership during the COVID-19 crisis. This included a quick pivot to flexibility in admissions and course delivery that allowed the school to sustain programs and meet the needs of students in a moment of upheaval.
"Please join us in thanking Alex for his service to the university and congratulating him on his reappointment," Daniels and Jayawardhana wrote.
