A 22-person search committee has been appointed to help lead a global search for the next dean of the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and CEO of Johns Hopkins Medicine, JHU President Ron Daniels announced in a message to the Hopkins community last week.
The committee will be co-chaired by incoming Provost Ray Jayawardhana, who will assume his role at Johns Hopkins on Oct. 15, and Mayo Shattuck, chair of the Johns Hopkins Medicine and Johns Hopkins Health System boards of trustees, and vice chair of the Johns Hopkins University Board of Trustees.
"Our next leader will be called upon to steer Johns Hopkins Medicine at an exciting and critical moment for our institution," Daniels wrote. "They will work alongside our exceptional faculty, students and staff, building on more than 140 years of leadership in patient care, research, and education. … I am grateful to the co-chairs and each of the search committee members … for taking on this important responsibility."
The process will be aided by the executive search firm Education Executives, which will work closely with the committee to identify candidates. Feedback and confidential nominations can be shared with the firm via email at jhm.dean@edexsearch.com.
