Senior Ellie McNulty scored four goals, and junior Maggie Schneidereith and sophomore midfielder Keegan Barger added three apiece as the Johns Hopkins women's lacrosse team rolled to a 17-9 win at Drexel in both teams' season opener Sunday.
Senior Miranda Ibello added two goals and two assists for No. 23 Hopkins (1-0), which improved to 19-7 all-time in openers under coach Janine Tucker. Complete box score
The Dragons never led but stayed close for most of the half, and they pulled to within 7-5 on a goal by Marah Hayes with 6:50 to play before halftime. But Hopkins pushed its advantage to 9-5 before the break on goals by Schneidereith and McNulty, then outscored Drexel 8-4 in the second half.
Goalkeeper Haley Crosson had five saves for the Blue Jays, who open their home schedule against Loyola at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
