Women's soccer: Hopkins holds of Swarthmore in battle of top 25 teams

Blue Jays get goals from Maheras, Santangelo to earn fifth consecutive victory

Sophomore Emily Maheras and senior Michelle Santangelo each scored a goal to lift the Johns Hopkins women's soccer team to a 2-0 win against No. 23 Swarthmore on Saturday afternoon at Homewood Field.

With the win, the No. 11 Blue Jays (12-2-1) improved to a perfect 7-0 against Centennial Conference opponents this season.

Maheras opened the scoring in the 33rd minute, collecting a loose ball near the 18-yard line and tucking a shot inside the post to put Hopkins in front.

Santangelo gave JHU some breathing room in the 71st minute with a header off an assist from Bailey Monaco, her ninth goal of the season.

Hopkins has won five consecutive games since a 3-2 overtime loss against Stevenson on Sept. 27. The Blue Jays return to action Saturday when they visit Ursinus at noon.
