Weekend picks: Johns Hopkins events roundup for Sept. 15-17

There are lots of things to do this weekend. These are some of our favorites.

The next few days provide ample opportunities to cheer on the Blue Jays or attend an information session (with snacks) for a study aboard experience or student organization. Don't miss out.

ARTS + CULTURE

Sarah Gubbins visit
Saturday, 7 p.m. | Bloomberg Center Auditorium
The Film and Media Studies program will bring the co-creator and showrunner of the Amazon Original Series "I Love Dick" for a talk and Q&A. Gubbins will screen clips from the show, and there will be a reception afterward.

ATHLETICS

Volleyball: St Mary's at Hopkins
Friday, 7 p.m. | White Athletic Center
Show your school spirit by supporting the volleyball team at their home opener. The Blue Jays will take on St. Mary's College of Maryland and are coming off of back-to-back wins in Fredericksburg, Virginia, last weekend.

Field hockey: Bryn Mawr at Hopkins
Saturday, 4 p.m. | Homewood Field
The Blue Jays will go stick to stick with Bryn Mawr as they kick off their Centennial Conference schedule.

Men's soccer: Haverford at Hopkins
Saturday, 7 p.m. | Homewood Field
After a 4-1 win against York College, the men's soccer team will take on Haverford to open up their Centennial Conference slate. Go cheer them on!

GET INVOLVED

Art, Volunteering, and Cookies with the Art Brigade
Friday, 7 p.m. | Charles Commons MPR
What's not to love about an organization that enriches inner city community centers, and will give you cookies to learn more? Members are only expected to volunteer two hours per week and get the chance to be involved in Baltimore.

Johns Quincy Adams Society information session
Saturday, 4 p.m. | Arellano Theater
A lot is going on in the world of foreign policy. JQAS is a non-partisan, political organization that urges realism and restraint. Snack while you learn more about this group at JHU.

Ice cream with Faculty-Student Interaction
Sunday, 2–4 p.m. | Freshman Quad
Learn more about this group's goal to bridge the gap between the academic and residential settings at JHU. You can cool-off with ice cream while focusing on your academic career and connections with faculty.

Comedy Night at the LaB

Get ready to laugh out loud. JHUnions will bring members of the Stand-Up Comedy Club and Baltimore Improv Group for a night of ROFL.

LEARN SOMETHING NEW

DSLR intermediate camera group authorization
Friday, 4 p.m | Mattin Center Suite 226
Knowing how to operate a DSLR is a valuable skill in any profession, or just for fun. This session will teach you how to use the Canon 6D and 7D cameras so you can check them out for future use. Note: Prerequisite required.

TRAVEL THE WORLD

Hej! This session gets your ready for the Denmark Intersession—a class where students learn the principles, values, and skills necessary to lead and succeed in organizations that make a positive difference in today's world. Time to get a passport.

Florence Intersession info session
Friday, 4 p.m. | Levering Hall
Ciao! Learn more about an opportunity to study in Florence, Italy, this January. The course offers an introduction to the art, architecture, and culture of the Italian Renaissance. Although the course is intensive, there will be plenty of Italian food to enjoy while overseas. Buon appetito!
