Weekend picks: Johns Hopkins events roundup for May 5-7

May has arrived and so have lots of springtime activities on campus. These are some of our favorites.

Thought Spring Fair was busy and full of fun? Here's a sampling of what's going on this weekend at Johns Hopkins as the spring semester comes to an end. Get ready to sing your heart out, break a sweat, and celebrate the end of classes.

ARTS + CULTURE

Dunbar-Baldwin-Hughes Theatre presents 'The Brothers Size' and 'Marcus'
Friday at 7 p.m., Saturday at 8 p.m. | Swirnow Theater
From the creator of the best picture Moonlight comes "The Brothers Size" and "Marcus; Or the Secret of Sweet." The student-run DBH Theater will present these plays which draw on Yoruba and Creole traditions to explore the nature of brotherhood and diverse sexuality. Snag a $2 discount when you show your J-Card at the door.

The Gilman Underground: Ne'er-Do-Wells and Insufferable Bastards
Friday, 10 p.m. | Arellano Theater
There's a new sheriff in town—i.e. a new a cappella group on campus. The pop-punk singers will present a concert filled with catchy melodies, power chords, and guitar solos (minus the guitars, of course).

Johns Hopkins Entertainers Club Spring Fire Show
Saturday, 9 p.m. | The Beach
Don't be late for this very important date! Spend a night in Wonderland as the Johns Hopkins Entertainers Club puts on a fire show with spinning, hooping, and juggling.

Gospel Choir at JHU's spring concert
Sunday, 5 p.m. | Mattin Center
End the weekend with a performance by the Gospel Choir at JHU. Songs of praise and refreshments provided.

A GOOD CAUSE

Ishara: SASH Spring Charity Showcase
Saturday, 4:30 p.m. | Glass Pavilion
South Asian Students at Hopkins (SASH) is offering the JHU community a chance to see talented performers while helping to combat physical and sexual abuse and gender violence. Johns Hopkins' South Asian dance and a cappella teams will put on a show, and all proceeds will benefit the Mahendra Singh Foundation. You can opt for general admission ($2) or admission and dinner ($5).

GET ACTIVE

Free deep water exercise class
Friday, 12 p.m. | O'Connor Rec Center
As part of De-Stress Week, take this water workout class that combines cardio intervals and resistance training. Bring swim clothes and a towel; everything else will be provided.

Poker Walk/Run
Saturday, 10 a.m. | O'Connor Rec Center
Is your poker face better than your running stride? This event combines playing cards and taking a walk or run around campus. Participants will receive a card at each checkpoint and prizes will go to the best hands.

GOOD OL' FUN

We Made It! With JHUnions
Friday, 9 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. | The LaB
Celebrate the last day of classes with an open-mic night, caricaturist, sand art, painting, video games, board games, musical chairs, food, and prizes. Enough said!

6th Annual Spring Kick-Off Party
Saturday, 12 to 3 p.m. | Behind the Johns Hopkins at Eastern Campus
Blue Jay's Perch, the official Johns Hopkins community garden, is kicking off spring with homemade food, live music, and great company. Bring a dish for the potluck!

Interactive Refugee Display
Friday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. | Levering Courtyard
Have you ever wondered what it might be like to be a refugee? This interactive event will give participants a glimpse of life as a refugee using mock interviews, applications, and life stories.
