Stuff to do

Weekend picks: Johns Hopkins events roundup for April 14-16

There are lots of things to do this weekend. These are some of our favorites.

This weekend's forecast calls for partly cloudy skies on Friday and Saturday and a toasty 84 degrees to finish the weekend. The Hub wants you to enjoy the springtime weather and some of these events happening on campus.

ARTS + CULTURE

Octopodes spring concert
Friday, 8 p.m. | Bloomberg Center
Listen to the Octopodes' seniors sing their swan songs and enjoy a cappella covers of Ariana Grande, The Chainsmokers, Sara Bareilles, and more. There will be a guest performance by the award-winning UMBC Mama's Boys.

Music Under the Stars
Friday, 8 p.m. | The Beach
Support the talented DJs, entertainers, and musicians here at JHU, all while under the night sky. This casual concert is hosted by Hopkins United for Music and will include free food, face painting, and more.

Temps d' Afrique: The Beautiful Struggle
Saturday, 7 p.m. | Shriver Hall
This dance show will explore the uncomfortable aspects of the human experience and how people deal with them in both positive and negative ways. Indulge yourself with visual representations of triumph and struggle.

A GOOD CAUSE

Project downtown with the United Muslim Relief
Saturday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. | Charles Commons
Join United Muslim Relief and Hopkins for the Homeless as they prepare sandwich bags and hygiene kits for people experiencing homelessness. Then take a trip downtown to pass them out to the community.

Kappa Karnival
Saturday, 2 to 5 p.m. | Freshman Quad
Jump in a bounce house, get a henna tattoo, play carnival games, and support Reading is Fundamental during this Kappa Kappa Gamma philanthropy event. Proceeds will help provide books to children and empower them to learn and grow. Snag a ticket from a member of the sorority.

ATHLETICS

Men's tennis: Haverford at Johns Hopkins
Saturday, 11 a.m. | Tennis courts
The Blue Jays challenge the Black Squirrels in a Centennial Conference match. Get out and cheer them to a victory—but not while they're playing the point!

Men's lacrosse: Penn State at Hopkins
Saturday, 2 p.m. | Homewood Field
Show your school spirit and watch the No. 5 Nittany Lions—who were ranked No. 1 nationally last week before taking their first loss—take on the No. 12 Blue Jays in a Big Ten Conference game.

GOOD OL' FUN

Scrapbooking at Paint Night
Saturday, 5 to 8 p.m. | Mattin Center
Have a pile of pictures you've yet to sit down and scrapbook? JHUnions will provide the place, stickers, and supplies—just bring your own book/journal.
