Shades of spring: Johns Hopkins students celebrate Holi, an annual festival of colors

A day after a wintry mix of snow and rain fell at Johns Hopkins University's Homewood campus, students gathered on The Beach to bid winter farewell and welcome spring as part of the annual celebration of Holi, India's spring festival of color.

Holi, an ancient Hindu religious festival that honors life, love, and brotherhood, is celebrated around the world. At Johns Hopkins, students marked the occasion with food, dancing, and a powder color war. Participants—including those on campus for Alumni Weekend—transformed The Beach into a cloud of color as they launched vibrant hues at one another.

A full catered Indian meal featuring delicacies from both North and South India, masala chai, and samosas followed the celebration.

The event was hosted by the JHU Association for India's Development and the Hindu Students' Council and sponsored by the Homewood Graduate Representative Organization and the School of Medicine Graduate Students Association.
