Men's lacrosse: Second-half surge propels No. 11 Hopkins past UMBC

Blue Jays outscore Retrievers 12-1 after halftime en route to 19-7 win

The Johns Hopkins men's lacrosse team outscored host UMBC 12-1 in the second half Wednesday and cruised to a 19-7 victory at UMBC Stadium.

The No. 11 Blue Jays (15-3) led 7-6 at halftime and extended their lead with three goals within the first six and a half minutes of the second half. The Retrievers (1-6) scored to pull within 10-7, but Hopkins notched the game's final nine goals for a runaway victory.

Ryan Brown paced JHU with four goals, Wilkins Dismuke and Kyle Marr added three goals apiece, and John Crawley scored twice. Junior defenseman Nick Fields, sophomore midfielder Tal Bruno, and senior attackman Liam Giblin all scored their first goals of the season for Hopkins.

Johns Hopkins returns to action Saturday for its Big Ten Conference opener at Rutgers at 7 p.m.
