Johns Hopkins celebrates generosity, philanthropy on Giving Tuesday

We have a day for giving thanks. We have two for getting deals. Now we have Giving Tuesday, a global day dedicated to giving back.

The Johns Hopkins Office of Annual Giving will join in the celebration of Giving Tuesday today by encouraging philanthropy on this global day of giving along with nearly 10,000 charities and organizations around the world. A year ago, Johns Hopkins received gifts from individuals in 30 states and more than 20 countries. Today, Johns Hopkins alumni, parents, and friends will come together again to celebrate generosity and to give.

"Our donors understand the impact of philanthropy. By sharing the message of #GivingTuesdayJHU, we are helping good go viral and showcasing how each individual gift contributes to the larger mission," said Susan Baisley, associate vice president of constituent engagement and a graduate of the Johns Hopkins Krieger School of Arts & Sciences.

Representatives from the Annual Giving staff will be on hand at the Breezeway from 9:30-11 a.m. and from 2-3 p.m., and donors will receive an "I Support Johns Hopkins" sticker, a Johns Hopkins decal, and other items. Activities from the day will be highlighted online with the #GivingTuesdayJHU and #GivingTuesdayJH hashtags.

"We truly appreciate each and every gift," said Chris Dax, Director of Annual Giving. "When our alumni, parents, and friends support Johns Hopkins, it means we can do so much more to support the many unique programs, opportunities, and experiences that make Johns Hopkins the exceptional place that it is—one that enables students to earn a Johns Hopkins degree, help our clinicians save lives, and allow our researchers to solve the complex problems of today,"
