Brandon Cherry ran for 163 yards and three touchdowns, and J.D. Abbott ran for two scores at the Johns Hopkins football team held off Franklin & Marshall 45-30 on Saturday at Homewood Field to wrap up its third consecutive Centennial Conference championship. The Blue Jays (9-0) will represent the league in the NCAA playoffs for the third year in a row and fourth time in the past five years.
Cherry got JHU out of the gates quickly with a 76-yard touchdown run on the Blue Jays' first offensive snap. But F&M (5-4) led 20-14 in the second quarter, forcing the hosts to play from behind. But Johns Arena's 56-yard interception return for a touchdown late in the first half put Johns Hopkins ahead for good, and Cherry added two second-half touchdown runs.
The win was the 500th all-time for Johns Hopkins, which wraps up its regular season Saturday at McDaniel.
