The Johns Hopkins men's lacrosse team will open the 2014 season at Homewood Field against Ohio State on Feb. 9, the first of seven games the Blue Jays will play against teams that made the NCAA tournament in 2013. Johns Hopkins coach Dave Pietramala discussed the schedule in a video released by the athletic department on Wednesday.
Seven of JHU's 14 contests will be played at home, including a visit from 2013 national runner-up Syracuse on March 15 and a Homecoming matchup with rival Maryland on April 12.
Other highlights include a visit to Virginia on March 22, a home matchup with North Carolina on March 29, and a trip up Charles Street to face Loyola in the final game of the regular season on May 3.
Johns Hopkins went 9-5 in 2013 and missed out on the postseason for the first time in 42 years, ending the longest active streak of qualifying for the NCAA tournament in any Division I team sports. In June, JHU announced that its men's lacrosse team would be joining the new Big Ten Conference, with league play beginning in 2015. Three teams on JHU's schedule this year—Ohio State, Michigan, and Maryland—will be part of the Big Ten, along with Penn State and Rutgers.
