Johns Hopkins football team ranked 17th nationally in preseason poll

Blue Jays are among top 10 in two other polls after 10-2 season

The Johns Hopkins football team is ranked 17th nationally in a preseason football poll released Thursday by D3football.com, the third top-20 ranking for the Blue Jays this preseason. JHU is ranked No. 9 among Division III teams by Sporting News and No. 10 by Lindy's in their preseason polls.

The Blue Jays are coming off a 10-2 season in which they advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament before losing to Mount Union, the eventual national champion and the top-ranked team in the D3football.com and Lindy's preseason polls. JHU won its fourth consecutive Centennial Conference title last season and advanced to the NCAA tournament for the third time in four years.

Two members of the Blue Jays' offensive line have garnered preseason All-America recognition—senior tackle Armand Jenifer was a first-team selection by both Lindy's and Sporting News, and senior center Ben Cranston picked up second-team recognition from Lindy's.

Johns Hopkins opens its season on Sept. 7 at Randolph Macon. View the complete 2013 schedule.
