Johns Hopkins rallies at UNC, falls in overtime

No. 6 Tar Heels score six seconds into extra time for 11-10 win

R.G. Keenan scored six seconds into overtime to lift the sixth-ranked North Caorlina men's lacrosse team to an 11-10 win over No. 8 Johns Hopkins in Chapel Hill, N.C., on Saturday afternoon.

The Blue Jays (6-3) took their only lead of the game with 4:36 remaining in regulation when senior John Greeley capped a long possession with a goal to put JHU ahead 10-9. The Tar Heels (7-3) got even with 90 seconds left on to play on a goal by Davey Emala to force extra time. In overtime, Keenan won the opening faceoff and raced down the field to score the decisive goal.

Zach Palmer paced Johns Hopkins with three goals, and Lee Coppersmith and Ryan Brown added two goals apiece. Goalkeeper Pierce Bassett came up with eight saves. The Blue Jays fell behind 9-7 early in the fourth quarter but scored three consecutive goals to go in front.

JHU hosts Albany on Friday at 7 p.m. The game will be televised on ESPNU.
