Northwestern hands JHU women's lacrosse its first loss

Defending national champion Wildcats pull away for 18-8 win

Fourth-ranked Northwestern scored seven consecutive goals during a 13-minute run to put away 12th-ranked Johns Hopkins women's lacrosse team 18-8 on Saturday at Homewood Field.

The Blue Jays (4-1) pulled to within 4-3 when freshman Jenna Reifler scored with 12:36 to play in the first half. But the Wildcats (5-1), defending national champions, netted four goals before halftime and then scored the first three after the break to put the game out of reach.

Junior Sarah Taylor and freshman Dene' DiMartino each notched a pair of goals for JHU, and goalkeeper Cosette Larash made seven saves.

The Blue Jays host Georgetown on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
