Princeton deals No. 3 Johns Hopkins its first loss

12th-ranked Tigers score 5 of game's final 6 goals for 11-8 victory

Visiting Princeton scored five of the final six goals of the game and dealt the Johns Hopkins men's lacrosse team its first loss of the season, 11-8, Friday evening at Homewood Field.

The Blue Jays (3-1), who entered the game ranked third nationally in the USILA coaches poll, led 7-6 midway through the third quarter, but the No. 12 Tigers (2-0) netted four consecutive goals to take charge.

Junior Brandon Benn's fourth goal of the game, with 7:37 to play, was JHU's only score over the final 24 minutes. Benn leads Johns Hopkins with 14 goals on the season.

Freshman Holden Cattoni scored twice for the Blue Jays, his first goals of the season, and Wells Stanwick and Zach Palmer each scored once. Goalkeeper Pierce Bassett had seven saves.

Jeff Froccaro and Tom Schreiber each scored three goals for Princeton.

JHU returns to action Tuesday when it hosts Mount St. Mary's at 5 p.m.
