On an unseasonably warm December night, members of the Johns Hopkins community gathered on the Upper Quad to usher in the holiday season at the annual Lighting of the Quads.
The crowd was treated to refreshments, heard performances from a cappella groups and the Johns Hopkins pep band, then cheered as President Ronald J. Daniels and Interim Provost Jonathan A. Bagger flipped the switch to illuminate Gilman Hall and the rest of the quad. And, for the first time, there were fireworks.
The event, in its eighth year, was co-sponsored by the Student Government Association, the Hopkins Parent Fund, and the Office of the Dean of Student Life.
The evening also included a gingerbread house competition, co-sponsored by Student Life and the Johns Hopkins University Residential Advisory Board.
