JHU to host Washington & Jefferson in first round of NCAA football playoffs

Blue Jays clinched league title, playoff berth with 49-7 win vs. McDaniel

The Johns Hopkins football team, which capped a 9-1 season with a 49-7 win against McDaniel on Saturday, will host Washington & Jefferson in the first round of the NCAA Division III tournament on Saturday. It will be the first-ever meeting between the two schools.

The game will be played at noon at Homewood Field. Ticket information will be announced today.

The winner will advance to play the winner of a first-round game between Mount Union and Christopher Newport. A complete bracket for the 32-team field is available on the NCAA website.

The Blue Jays won the Centennial Conference to qualify for the playoffs for the second year in a row and the third time in four seasons. JHU clinched the conference title on Saturday, as Jonathan Rigaud and Brandon Cherry each scored twice in a rout of the winless Green Terror.

Washington & Jefferson (8-2) is making its 22nd playoff appearance overall, and its first since 2009.
