Free flu shots available for university employees

Vaccination sessions begin Sept. 17 at sites across the university

University employees can receive seasonal flu vaccinations free of charge beginning later this month at locations across the university. Vaccination sessions will begin Sept. 17 and run through Oct. 5. Spouses and domestic partners of university employees can receive shots as well.

A complete list of vaccination sites and times is available online.

The free flu vaccine is available to all full-time university employees, part-time employees for whom the university is the primary employer, and their spouses and domestic partners. Children are not eligible. The employee must accompany his or her spouse or domestic partner to the vaccination site and have university identification available.

Students should check with the student health centers serving their schools or campuses about vaccine availability.

Vaccinations are available via shot or FluMist. Faculty, staff and students who have direct patient contact must be vaccinated.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that everyone 6 months of age or older be vaccinated for flu every year, with few exceptions. You should be vaccinated even if you received the vaccine last year. More CDC information is available online.
