Description
Everyone's heard of the Dark Web, but few dare to venture into this netherworld. In this talk, cybersecurity expert Joseph M. Hatfield explains the origins of and technology behind the Dark Web and anonymous web browsing. He takes the audience on a live tour of dark websites and discusses the need for their context-dependency. The talk offers the lay public and tech-savvy alike a firm foundation for understanding the Dark Web's use in news articles, security-related commercials, and in considerations of one's own personal security.
Dr. Joseph M. Hatfield recently retired as an active-duty naval intelligence officer and Assistant Professor at the United States Naval Academy, where he taught courses on the technical fundamentals of cybersecurity, the ethics and policy of cyber operations, intelligence and national security, and human factors in cyber operations. He earned a Ph.D. at Cambridge University and his well-cited research is published in leading peer-reviewed academic journals and he has been a guest on conference panels, podcasts, and other venues.
