Description

Please join the Chloe Center for the Critical Study of Racism, Immigration, and Colonialism for a panel discussion bringing together speakers who are working on the ground with migrants and refugees. They will discuss their experiences, comparing the situations at the U.S.–Mexico border and in Baltimore. They will also speak to what effects the new presidential administration is likely to have and what new challenges are arising. And they will present ways for Johns Hopkins students to become more involved and active in immigration-justice struggles, building solidarity from the borderlands to Baltimore and beyond.

After the panel discussion, there will be a reception to celebrate the launch of the Critical Diaspora Studies major.

Speakers:

  • Susana Gastelum, SAMU First Response
  • Yaneldis Boullon, Esperanza Center Health Services
  • Fatmata Barrie, Barrie Law Center
  • Julian Lim, Johns Hopkins associate professor of history (moderator)
  • Christopher Amanat, Critical Diaspora Studies, Class of '28 (moderator)

This discussion is co-sponsored by the Johns Hopkins Center for Social Concern and the Program in Latin American, Caribbean, and Latinx Studies.
