Description

Bart Paulhamus will lead a tutorial at Grace United Methodist Church (5407 N. Charles St., Baltimore, MD 21210) with examples of the work being done in artificial intelligence (AI) at the Intelligent Systems Center (ISC), which leverages the Applied Physics Laboratory's (APL) broad expertise across national security, space exploration, and health to fundamentally advance the use of intelligent systems for our nation's critical challenges.

Then, on Nov. 19, Paulhamus leads the tour at the APL (11100 Johns Hopkins Rd., Laurel, MD 20723), which will introduce participants to the ISC and how it acts as a focal point for research and development in artificial intelligence, robotics, and neuroscience at the APL. Plan on 60 minutes of walking throughout, followed by videos from the ISC (30 minutes in a seated area). Don't miss this opportunity to learn about the critical and cutting-edge work of the ISC.

This two-day course is hosted by the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute.

Paulhamus is chair for the AI Program in Johns Hopkins's Whiting School of Engineering and chief and co-founder at the ISC at Johns Hopkins's APL. Since its founding in 2016, the goal of the center is to conduct pioneering research with mission intent. Recognizing that intelligent systems are multidisciplinary, the center tackles the research challenges underlying intelligent systems by combining AI, neuroscience, and robotics. His technical background is in AI, and he has over 20 years of experience in applied research and development.
